My philosophy of teaching and learning is threefold :
  • to promote active learning;
  • to create learners’ enthusiasm for learning;
  • to provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Promoting active learning in teaching is to facilitate learning by helping students to gain the necessary skills to take control of, to benefit from teamwork learning, and also to become active participants in their own learning. I believe students are best served when they are actively and rigorously engaged in the quest of knowledge. A teacher may inspire, but students should be actively engaged in the learning process for it to be successful.
Active learning is a teaching strategy that can create learners’ enthusiasm for learning. Thus, the knowledge gained through active learning with enthusiasm is knowledge that will remain with the students as it becomes a very strong foundation for lifelong learning. Thus my approach in teaching reflects my teaching and learning philosophy and I use many techniques that are designed to engage students in their own learning and experience active learning.

I believe that learning requires deep understanding that can only come when students actively apply knowledge in creative and meaningful ways. In an effort to give students greater ownership of the knowledge they encounter, I use cooperative and active learning strategies as well as lecture in my classroom and try to develop assignments that foster both analytical and critical thinking and opportunities for creative application. I do hope that my students will be able to fully understand the course content and thus applying abstract theories to what they experience in their everyday world. Ideally, this approach should empower students to communicate ideas and process concepts in ways that are meaningful to them.

The best teachers are those that never stop learning and continue striving to improve. It is important to realize that teaching is full of surprises and new situations and one must be ready to adapt, react and discover new strategies.  What remains true, it is the necessity to create a meaningful learning environment and to understand how to relate one’s knowledge to students.

and action without knowledge can’t be!”
